Rock Against the TPP: Artists & Celebrities Fight the Trans-Pacific Partnership

Rock Against the TPP: Artists & Celebrities Fight the Trans-Pacific Partnership
Thu, 9/15/2016 - by Rock Against the TPP

Join us for a nationwide uprising and concert tour to stop the biggest corporate power grab in history: the Trans-Pacific Partnership. The next show is Friday, September 16, in Toronto

What's Going On?

Congress is about to decide the fate of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), an anti-democratic deal between 12 countries that was negotiated in complete secrecy by government officials and hundreds of corporate lobbyists. If it becomes law, the TPP would be the largest deal of its kind in history, and it poses a grave threat to good-paying jobs, internet freedom, the environment, access to medicine, food safety, and the future of freedom of expression.

What Can We Do About It?

The TPP text has already been finalized, but before it becomes law, U.S. Congress must approve it. With all the extreme secrecy and blatant corruption surrounding this deal, it’s not hard to see why voters from across the political spectrum overwhelmingly oppose it. Even all the leading presidential candidates are against it! But pro-TPP members of Congress are still plotting to rush the TPP to a vote this Fall. They want to do it quietly. That’s why we need to get loud.

What is Rock Against the TPP?

Rock Against the TPP is a massive effort to sound the alarm about the toxic backroom deal that is the Trans-Pacific Partnership. Through a series of large-scale educational concert events, protests, teach-ins, and trainings, we’ll reach thousands of people who haven’t heard about the TPP yet, and ignite a movement to stop it in its tracks. The tour is a partnership between viral internet freedom nonprofit Fight for the Future and Firebrand Records, the new freedom fighting record label co-founded by Ryan Harvey and Tom Morello.

I think you need to reconsider, or wait until after the election. Middle class liberals are going all-out for Hillary Clinton. In 2015, before launching her campaign, Clinton was working on selling the TPP to Congress. This wasn't done in secret, and we weren't surprised, since her husband had signed on to NAFTA.

I agree about your assessment of Clinton. In fact, she's never said that she's against the TPP. She's said repeatedly that she's against it is as "presently written": the classic back door escape to the back room where she'll approve the TPP, in any form, once elected, assuming that happens.

However, I think we need to get the word our now, as we've all been trying to do for years, actually, if we're to build awareness and resistance to the TPP.

So, I'd say, let's do both: keep up the education/awareness and the pressure and continue it through the administration of whomever is elected and, frankly, thereafter, so there's no chance of resurrection under a new name, etc.

Agriculture, the service economy, sexual exploitation, manufacturing, construction and domestic work drive today's enslavement around the world.

Thanks to the Electoral College, leftists have perhaps the final say this November over whether democracy can hold on for at least another four years, or if fascism will take root and infect all facets of the federal government for decades to come.

What remains unknown is whether post-truth Republicans will succeed in 2024 as the Nazis did in 1933.

Based on details that have emerged about Trump’s presidential agenda, the far-right Heritage Foundation plans for the next GOP president to have all the tools necessary to demolish multicultural democracy and establish a white, Christian ethnostate that imposes a gender apartheid not unlike the Taliban’s Afghanistan.

Donald Trump, Hitler

Like Hitler, Trump has a unique command of propaganda, a captivating public presence, and he knows how to drive home narratives beneficial to him and harmful to his enemies.

History shows there are no “one-day” dictatorships. When democracies fall, they typically fall completely.
