Grand Theft Rockaway: Money Vs. Hospitals

Grand Theft Rockaway: Money Vs. Hospitals
Mon, 11/4/2013

One year after Hurricane Sandy hit, public healthcare in the Rockaways is in some ways even more dire than it was during the storm. Peninsula Hospital, one of only two remaining hospitals, was shut down in April 2012 and the last one, St. John's Episcopal, is under threat of being dismantled as well. Other public hospitals across New York are facing similar attacks. What's behind this? One major factor is the value of the real estate the hospitals are on. Meanwhile, a statewide referendum being included in the November 5 ballot seeks to authorize the development of "up to seven" new casinos in New York state.

What remains unknown is whether post-truth Republicans will succeed in 2024 as the Nazis did in 1933.

History shows there are no “one-day” dictatorships. When democracies fall, they typically fall completely.

Based on details that have emerged about Trump’s presidential agenda, the far-right Heritage Foundation plans for the next GOP president to have all the tools necessary to demolish multicultural democracy and establish a white, Christian ethnostate that imposes a gender apartheid not unlike the Taliban’s Afghanistan.
