On Monday, February 17, the 50501 Movement — a concept born on social media encouraging 50 protests in 50 states on one day — is urging everyone opposed to Trump’s agenda to gather at city halls, state capitols, or at the United States Capitol for the Not My President’s Day national day of action. The group has also called the day of action #NoKingsDay, casting the 47th president as a tyrant who ignores the Constitution and the rule of law.
“The current administration has clarified that it cares more about profit than people. We as a collective refuse to stand by as they continue to undermine the dignity of our communities,” read a post on the 50501 Instagram account. “We are not just numbers or consumers. We are the People. We reject fascism. We reject the oligarchy. We reject the idea that any person’s worth is less than another’s. Together, we are a force for change.”
50501 launched on February 5 with anti-Trump protests in 80 cities nationwide with tens of thousands of people gathering at state capitol buildings. The group’s February 17 action is being jointly supported by Political Revolution, which was one of the main organizations that supported Sen. Bernie Sanders’ (I-Vermont) 2016 bid for the Democratic presidential nomination. A spokesperson recently told Newsweek that the group is planning to build on its momentum and plan its next national day of protest after President’s Day.
“On February 5th, you showed up for your community in the thousands—and we need you now more than ever. The movement is not over. We are just getting started,” the group wrote on Instagram. “On February 17th, 2025, we will unite for the National Not My President’s Day day of action, and we need YOU to be there. We’re asking you again to gather and protest or participate in other ways for our day of action.”
50501 is asking anyone who wants to publicly demonstrate their opposition to the Trump regime to take “steps of resistance” on February 17. This includes attending and/or organizing a protest, strategizing with local organizers, calling and emailing members of Congress.
“Take a moment of self-care in solidarity — your joy is resistance,” 50501’s post read. “Every small act contributes to a powerful collective movement. The time for action is now.”
“Join us on February 17th, and let’s make history together,” the group continued. “This is our moment. Let’s rise together.”
