In our third installment of RadiOWS, we begin with an Occupy Wall Street news roundup before launching into women's issues within the movement. We talk to OWS activist Christina Gonzalez, who was arrested and sent to Rikers Island for seven days for allegedly calling a district judge a "white racist pig." As we find out in her story, this wasn't entirely true. We then interview the organizers of Occupy Wall Street's first Feminist General Assembly, which took place on May 17 to much fanfare; we'll also hear a bit of the action from Washington Square NYC. Then we interview Occupy LA activist Sarah Mason on her thoughts about being used as Time Magazine's Person of the Year without her consent. Finally, we talk to Johanne Sterling who was one of a group of female protesters pepper sprayed by the NYPD on Sept 24 in an incident that sparked outrage and brought news coverage to the budding Occupy Wall Street movement, reframing it as a story of NYPD brutality against unarmed demonstrators.
