Acronym TV - Think Corporate Personhood is Bad? The TPP Will Give Us Corporate Nationhood

Acronym TV - Think Corporate Personhood is Bad? The TPP Will Give Us Corporate Nationhood

After years of secret talks, the United States and 11 other nations announced Monday that they'd reached agreement on the Trans-Pacific Partnership, or TPP. It’s been called NAFTA on steroids, and is viewed as a Trojan horse to usher in a global corporate coup. Because if you think the concept of corporate personhood is bad news, the TPP only strengthens the legal framework for corporate nationhood.

Acronym TV host Dennis Trainor, Jr. talks with Kevin Zeese about the battle to defeat the TPP, Hillary Clinton’s reversal on the deal, and the long trail of lies told by U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman.

Also interviewed for this segment is Rep. Alan Grayson.

Kevin Zeese is co-director of PopularResistance.org and It's Our Economy, an organization that advocates democratizing the economy. He's also an attorney who is one of the original organizers of the National Occupation of Washington, DC, in fall 2011. He has been active in independent and third party political campaigns, including for state legislative offices in Maryland, governor of California and U.S. president, where he served as press secretary and spokesperson for Ralph Nader in 2004. He ran for the U.S. Senate in 2006 and was the only person ever nominated by the Green Party, Libertarian Party and Populist Party.

U.S. Congressman Alan Grayson is a Democrat serving Florida's 9th District. Grayson previously represented Florida’s 8th District in the 111th Congress, and currently serves on two House Committees: Foreign Affairs and Science, Space, and Technology. For the Foreign Affairs Committee, Grayson serves on the Western Hemisphere Subcommittee and the Middle East and North Africa Subcommittee. For Science, Space, and Technology, he serves on the Energy and Environment Subcommittees.

The American people clearly spoke, and the drubbing Democrats received requires looking beyond just issue polls, voting patterns, campaign strategy, or get-out-the-vote tactics.

The recent decisions by two of the most influential national newspapers of record to not publish their endorsements of Vice President Kamala Harris says a lot about how seriously they take Trump’s threats to democracy and his promises of vengeance against his enemies.

On the eve of the historic November vote, it seems important to ask: What's wrong with men, how did we get here, and can we change this?

As Trump’s campaign grows increasingly bizarre, his team appears to be more tightly controlling his movements and carefully scripting his public appearances to minimize the negative impact his erratic behavior may have on undecided voters in swing states.

Throughout history, fascist governments have had a similar reliance on the use of lies as a weapon to take and retain power.

The country has never moved as close to the course it took under Benito Mussolini as it is doing now — and even if Meloni is not a neo-fascist politician, she has put herself in a position to appeal to and broaden fascism's political base.
