The First 100 Day Resistance Agenda

The First 100 Day Resistance Agenda

Trump’s First 100 Day agenda includes repealing environmental regulations, Obamacare, and the Dodd-Frank Act, giving the rich a huge tax cut, and much worse. Here’s the First 100 Day resistance agenda (with thanks to Alan Webber):

  1. Get Democrats in the Congress and across the country to pledge to oppose Trump’s agenda. Prolong the process of approving choices, draw out hearings, stand up as sanctuary cities and states. Take a stand. Call your senator and your representative.

  2. March and demonstrate—in a coordinated, well-managed way. The “1 Million Women March” is already scheduled for the Inauguration —and will be executed with real skill. There will be “sister” marches around the country—in L.A. and elsewhere. They need to be coordinated and orchestrated. And then? 1 Million Muslims? 1 Million Latinos? What would keep the momentum alive and keep the message going?

  3. Boycott all Trump products, real estate, hotels, resorts, everything. And then boycott all stores (like Nordstrom) that carry merchandise from Trump family brands.

  4. Letters to Editors: A national letter-writing campaign, from people all over the country, every walk of life and every level of society, from celebrities to sports heroes to grassroots Americans. In most papers, the Letters to the Editor section is the most-read part of the paper.

  5. Op-Eds: A steady flow of arguments about the fallacies and dangers of Trump’s First 100 Day policies and initiatives, from name-brand thinkers and doers to ordinary folk writing for their city’s or community’s newspaper.

  6. Social media: What about a new YouTube channel devoted to video testimonials about resisting Trump’s First 100 Day Agenda? Crowd-sourced ideas, themes and memes. Who wants to start it?

  7. Website containing up-to-date daily bulletins on what actions people are planning around the country, and where, so others can join in. Techies, get organized.

  8. Investigative journalism: We need investigative journalists to dig into the backgrounds of all of Trump’s appointees, in the White House, the Cabinet, Ambassadors and judges.

  9. Lawsuits: Our version of “Drill, baby, drill” is “Sue, baby, sue.” Throw sand in the gears. Lawyers, get organized.

  10. Coordinated fund-raising: Rather than having every public-interest group appeal on their own, have a coordinated fundraising program to fill the coffers of the most endangered and effective opposition groups. Is there a way to do a televised fundraiser with celebrities raising money for the Resistance?

  11. Symbolic opposition: Safety pins are already appearing. What else? What more? Make the resistance visible with bumper stickers, a label pin, a branding campaign that has great language, great logo, great wrist band (remember the Lance Armstrong “Livestrong” yellow wrist band—it sold millions!).

  12. Intellectual opposition: Take Trump on where he’s weakest—with serious ideas. I’ll try to do my part. You do yours, too.

  13. Serious accountability: Establish performance metrics to evaluate his delivery on his campaign promises. An updated web site of promises made and not kept. This is one especially suited to public policy students.

  14. Your idea goes here. Call a meeting of family and friends this weekend. Come up with to-dos.

Right. Behave, sign those petitions, send in those letters. I'm sure the right wing is most-sincerely concerned about your thoughts and feelings.

Meanwhile, we remain on a course set years ago. The US shut down/shipped out a huge number of jobs since the 1980s, ended actual welfare in the 1990s. We're grappling with the inevitable consequences. We have an abundant surplus of job-ready people who are desperate for any job at any wage. There's nothing to fall back on. We'd love to have a revolution, but can't get enough time off from work.

A chunk of the country knew that Obama represented our last chance to turn things around. It was worth a try. Even those who aren't on the right wing are deeply divided, pitted against each other, middle class vs. the poor, further split apart by race. That's not happy talk, but that's the way things are.

Some would say "oh, we did this to ourselves a long time ago", it's game over. How defeatist and simplistic. We need to stop with the "opinions" and get with changing reality. It can be done. It's been done before. Put down the video games, stop sticking your head in the sand and stop pulling the "oh well whatever" mentality and... get passionate, compassionate, focused and get to work. If there are no good paying jobs, then you have plenty of time to say, enough is enough, it's time for a change and work at it. If something is worth fighting for, stand up and get organized. If times are good, then no one has time to complain, right? So. For those who say that this is the way it is, to you defeatists I say, you can sit on the sidelines and observe, and reap the benefits of staying quiet and meek. Because staying silent gets nothing done, and bad things happen when good men and women do nothing. We have moved beyond the retweeting stage. It's no longer a writing or calling in movement. It's now about showing up, getting organized, standing up and being a presence. "That's the way things are." Defeatist b.s. that needs to get a new tune. It's the 21st century. Get with the times. They are changing, and the power of the people will always ALWAYS be stronger than the select few who don't want things to change and like the status quo.

I think we need a resistance effort to try to connect with states and areas where people are hurting and feel abandoned.. those who voted for Trump because they were hoping that he would stand up for them regarding jobs. (sure hatred motivated some but lost jobs and a bleak future was the real hook) I watched the NYC rally tonight and workers were hardly mentioned. Jobs not at all. We need to reach out and start thinking about them. How do we create jobs here and stem the flow of lost jobs short of a trade war? I have started commenting on the websites of conservative newspapers in those areas. Not in your face comments but providing information or stating things like "why are the Republicans taking away health insurance before they even have a replacement plan. That doesn't make sense." or "why would Trump appoint someone to run the Department of Education who won't enforce federals laws to protect disabled children?" The replies have been interesting.

The fight against Crosscheck begins with the obvious, that cheating in elections has painful consequences. Currently, as citizens have witnessed, the new president, Donald Trump --

-- supports Steve Bannon and his shocking headline, “Hoist it high and proud,” praising the killing of blacks in Charleston, South Carolina

-- vows to murder the families and children of terrorist suspects

-- accuses 2.9 million Americans of committing a crime by voting for Hillary Clinton

-- accuses millions of undocumented Mexicans of being murderers and rapists

-- assaults for five years President Barack Obama on the birther issue

-- invites the assassination of Hillary Clinton with “Let's see what happens to her. Take their guns away, okay? It would be very dangerous”

-- vows to reinstate torture “a hell of a lot worse than waterboarding” in violation of international law

-- accuses 17 U.S. intelligence agencies of falsehood in Russia’s hacking of the United States elections

-- attacks U.S. intelligence agencies for acting like Nazi Germany, in the (unproven) leaking of a dossier given to the FBI by Senator John McCain, alleging Russia possesses a damaging video of Trump meeting with prostitutes at a Moscow hotel

The lessons we draw continue to grow worse and worse.

But the truly painful reality is this:

Greg Palast reports a Republican system, called Crosscheck (at http://www.gregpalast.com/election-stolen-heres/), has purged --

-- 449,922 voters in Michigan, where the Trump victory margin was 13,107

-- 270,824 voters in Arizona, where the Trump victory margin was 85,257

-- 589,393 voters in North Carolina, where the Trump victory margin was 177,008

-- in a total of 28 states, Crosscheck has removed 1.1 million voters, most of these black and Hispanic

This occurrence, not the uncertain term of a president such as Trump, is where we must take a stand. Democrats must, immediately, present the citizens’ case against Crosscheck, and a stolen America, before the Supreme Court.

Thanks!

The American people clearly spoke, and the drubbing Democrats received requires looking beyond just issue polls, voting patterns, campaign strategy, or get-out-the-vote tactics.

The recent decisions by two of the most influential national newspapers of record to not publish their endorsements of Vice President Kamala Harris says a lot about how seriously they take Trump’s threats to democracy and his promises of vengeance against his enemies.

On the eve of the historic November vote, it seems important to ask: What's wrong with men, how did we get here, and can we change this?

As Trump’s campaign grows increasingly bizarre, his team appears to be more tightly controlling his movements and carefully scripting his public appearances to minimize the negative impact his erratic behavior may have on undecided voters in swing states.

Throughout history, fascist governments have had a similar reliance on the use of lies as a weapon to take and retain power.
